ZANU PF PLOTS TO KEEP MNANGAGWA IN POWER UNTIL 2030

ZANU PF has once again shown that it does not respect the will of the people. Ten of its provinces have now adopted a plan to extend Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule beyond 2028. This is the year his constitutional second term should end, but the party wants him to stay until 2030. This push is expected to be confirmed at the coming Mutare convention. What this means is that the party is preparing to give Mnangagwa what is really a third term, even when the law is clear that he must step down in 2028.

This plan comes from a resolution that was made at the party’s Bulawayo annual conference last year. At that time, ZANU PF said it wanted to change the rules so that Mnangagwa could continue. Now they are moving to make it real. The danger is not only that the constitution is being ignored, but also that democracy in Zimbabwe is being pushed further into the grave. People voted for two terms, not endless power.

The other big issue is what this means inside ZANU PF. Everyone knows that Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has been waiting in the shadows for his turn. The power struggle between him and Mnangagwa has always been there, even if they do not say it openly. Now the question is simple: will Chiwenga agree to Mnangagwa staying, will he resist quietly, or will he stand up and reject it? This is the test that is coming at Mutare.

If Chiwenga accepts the plan, it will show that Mnangagwa has managed to fully crush his rival and silence his camp. But if he resists or rejects it, then ZANU PF will face open division. The fight for succession will no longer be hidden. Many Zimbabweans know that this struggle is not about serving the people. It is about power, greed, and survival inside a corrupt system.

Mnangagwa has made a huge move. He wants to make sure he stays in control while blocking anyone who dares to challenge him. He has used fear, patronage, and false promises before. Now he wants to rewrite the future. But Zimbabweans must ask: who gave him the right to change the law for himself? Who decided that he alone must keep ruling, even when his time is up?

The country is already suffering from poverty, unemployment, and lack of basic services. Corruption is everywhere. Instead of fixing these problems, ZANU PF leaders are busy planning how to stay in power. They treat Zimbabwe as if it is their personal property. This is not leadership. It is daylight robbery of the nation’s future.

At Mutare, eyes will be on Chiwenga. If he bows to Mnangagwa, then we will know that the so-called rivalry has ended with Mnangagwa winning. But if he resists, it could be the start of a new battle inside ZANU PF. Either way, ordinary people remain the losers, because none of these men care about the suffering of the people. They only care about power.

Zimbabweans must not forget that the constitution is the highest law. It is not a toy for ZANU PF to change when it wants. Leaders must follow the law, not bend it for their own greed. If Mnangagwa and his camp succeed, it will be another nail in the coffin of democracy.

The people must be clear: Zimbabwe is not Mnangagwa’s personal farm. It is a nation of millions who deserve freedom, justice, and real change. The Mutare convention will show us what Chiwenga will do, but it is the people of Zimbabwe who must finally say enough is enough.
