ZANU PF FAILURE MAY SEE ZIMBABWE BANNED FROM UN MEETING
News from America shows how far Zimbabwe has fallen under ZANU PF. Reports say President Donald Trump is planning to block Zimbabwe from attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York this month. The meeting starts on Tuesday, September 23, and ends on Monday, September 29. The theme is “Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.” It is meant to be about unity and respect, but instead our country may not even be allowed to attend. The United States memo shows Zimbabwe is grouped with Iran, Sudan, and Brazil as delegations that could face restrictions.
This comes just after the White House refused visas to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and his entire team. That shocked the world because the UN is supposed to be a place for every country. But the host country, America, has used this power before. In 1988, Yasser Arafat of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation was blocked from entering New York. Even then people were angry, but now the United States is going even further by banning whole delegations, not just one leader.
The Palestinians are facing their biggest chance in years. Countries like the UK, France, Australia, and Canada are ready to recognise a Palestinian state if some conditions are met. This could be the most important step since the Oslo accords. But if Abbas and his team cannot attend, then Palestine will miss its moment. Israel is happy, but the rest of the world is alarmed. Observers say a blanket ban like this has never happened in UN history.
For Zimbabwe, being placed in the same box as Iran and Sudan is shameful. It shows the world no longer respects us. Instead of being seen as a normal country, we are seen as a problem. This is not the fault of ordinary people. It is the fault of ZANU PF. They have destroyed our name with corruption, violence, and lies. They have made us beggars in the world, with no friends and no trust.
When the world talks about peace, human rights, and development, Zimbabwe is not seen as part of that family. Our leaders are seen as thieves who cling to power while the people suffer. They fly around pretending to be important, but everywhere they go they carry shame. If we are banned from the UN meeting, it will not hurt the ministers who already live in comfort. It will hurt our country’s voice. It will hurt our chance to speak, to be heard, to be respected.
Per Clausen, a Danish member of the European Parliament, has already said the UN should move its meeting to Geneva so that Palestine can be represented and so that Trump can be challenged. His words show that many in the world do not like what America is doing. But his words also remind us of a painful truth. Zimbabwe’s problem is not Trump. Zimbabwe’s problem is ZANU PF. We are banned and isolated because of them.
This is supposed to be the 80th year of celebrating human rights. Yet Zimbabwe cannot celebrate. Our people are hungry, our hospitals are broken, our youths are jobless. And now our country may be locked outside the biggest global meeting. This is what ZANU PF has given us: shame, suffering, and silence. Until change comes, Zimbabwe will always be pushed to the edge of the world, not because of the people, but because of a government that refuses to respect its own citizens.
