POKELLO CELEBRATES IN LUXURY WHILE ZIMBABWEANS SUFFER

While most Zimbabweans are trying to survive each day, struggling with high prices, no jobs, poor hospitals and no electricity, Pokello Nare, who is the daughter-in-law of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was enjoying a luxury holiday in Italy. Pokello celebrated her 40th birthday at Lake Como, a very expensive place in Northern Italy, where the rich and famous go for fun. This place is known for its beauty and rich lifestyle. It is a place where normal Zimbabweans can only dream of going.

Photos and videos of Pokello’s birthday celebrations were shared online. She was seen wearing designer clothes, eating fancy food, and enjoying boat rides on the clear waters of Lake Como. Many people in Zimbabwe were shocked and angry when they saw these images. They asked how someone close to the President can live such a rich life when millions of people back home are suffering. It shows the big gap between those in power and ordinary people.

This is not the first time the Mnangagwa family has been in the news for showing off their wealth. Just last year, the President’s son was seen driving expensive cars and wearing gold chains, while people in rural areas walk long distances to get water or healthcare. Many Zimbabweans are now asking if the leaders really care about the people or they only care about themselves and their families.

Prices of food in Zimbabwe keep going up. A loaf of bread costs more than what most people earn in a day. Fuel is expensive, transport costs are high, and many people go to bed without eating. The country has a lot of natural resources, but most people are still poor. There is no reason why our leaders and their families should live like kings while the rest of us live in pain.

The government keeps telling people to be patient and work hard. But how can people be patient when their children are dying in hospitals with no medicine? How can people work hard when there are no jobs? While Pokello was relaxing in Italy, some Zimbabweans were selling tomatoes by the roadside just to buy a meal for the day.

Some ZANU PF supporters have tried to defend Pokello by saying she is a businesswoman and can afford her own lifestyle. But the truth is, even if she has money, it still sends a bad message. When you are connected to power, everything you do reflects the leadership. Zimbabwe is in a crisis, and instead of showing care, they show off their luxury. It is like they are mocking the people.

What is worse is that nothing will be done about this. There will be no questions asked in Parliament. No one will be fired. No one will explain how she got all that money. This is the Zimbabwe we are now living in – a place where the rich enjoy and the poor are forgotten.

Zimbabweans must open their eyes. This is not just about Pokello. It is about a system that allows this kind of behaviour to continue. It is about leaders who no longer care about the people. It is about a government that has failed. If we continue to be silent, nothing will ever change.

We must speak up. We must vote wisely. We must demand better. Our children deserve a future. Not a country where the leaders and their families live in Italy while we suffer in the dust.
