MPS GET STANDS AS ZIMBABWE PARLIAMENT TURNS INTO CRIME SCENE

The National Democratic Working Group (NDWG), led by Job Sikhala, has said that the Parliament of Zimbabwe is no longer a place of law and order. They say it is now a crime scene. This is because some Members of Parliament (MPs) are now only thinking of themselves. They are taking money and gifts to support President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is trying to stop an impeachment that could remove him from power.
Reports say that some MPs met in Mabelreign, Harare, to receive stands. These stands are believed to be a form of bribe. The MPs were given these stands so that they would vote against the impeachment of President Mnangagwa. This shows that some MPs are not working for the people, but for their own gain.
The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has confirmed that 70 residential stands were given to MPs on April 9, 2025. These stands were given in three areas: 15 in Killarney, Goromonzi, 15 in Penrose, Zvimba, and 40 in Mabelreign, Harare. The ministry said this is not a new thing. They said it is part of an old programme that started in the 8th Parliament. They say the aim is to “empower” MPs and help them with housing.
The Ministry released a statement. In it, they said that in 2013 they started working with Parliament to give stands to MPs. These stands are in urban and peri-urban areas. They say this benefit is only given once to each MP as a non-monetary benefit. The ministry said that the stands are part of the MPs’ working conditions.
The statement also said that MPs from the 8th, 9th, and 10th Parliaments have been receiving these stands. So far, Parliament has been given stands in Goromonzi (188), Bulawayo (49), Chiredzi (12), Kadoma (9), and Beitbridge (5). The Ministry said the stands given this April are part of that same programme.
They said the government is trying to help MPs, just like it helps war veterans, women, youth, and civil servants. The government says it is following the constitution by giving housing to targeted groups. The Ministry said they will keep updating the public on how these programmes are being done.
But even with this explanation, the timing of the new stands is raising questions. Many people think it is strange that these stands were given out now, just when President Mnangagwa is facing a possible impeachment. This makes people think the government is using the stands to buy support from MPs.
The NDWG and many Zimbabweans are worried. They think the MPs are not standing for the people anymore. Instead, they are being used to protect the president. They are choosing money and land over what is right. People are losing trust in Parliament.
The Parliament should be a place where leaders speak for the people. It should be a place of honesty and justice. But now, it seems to be a place where deals are made in secret. The giving of stands at this time makes people believe that corruption is growing.
This is not the kind of leadership Zimbabwe needs. The country needs honest leaders who care about the people and follow the law. Giving gifts to stop an impeachment is not just wrong, it is a danger to democracy.
Zimbabweans deserve better. They deserve leaders who fight for them, not for power or land. The truth must come out, and the people must continue to speak up when wrong things happen. Only then can Zimbabwe move forward.
