CHIVAYO’S NEW HEALTH DEAL EXPOSES ZIMBABWE’S CORRUPTION

Wicknell Chivayo is back again. This time, he is not just buying luxury cars or handing out money at parties. Now, he has entered the health sector. He just signed a huge deal worth more than US$400 million with the Office of the President and Cabinet. The deal is to supply cancer treatment equipment. Yes, you read that right—cancer machines.
Chivayo is already rich from government tenders. He has made millions from deals in energy, defence, construction, transport, internet services, and even elections. But that was not enough. Now he is moving into health, while ordinary people in Zimbabwe die because hospitals have no medicine or working machines.
This cancer deal is very big. According to the contract, the government will pay Chivayo US$109 million every year for four years. The payment plan starts with a US$52.5 million deposit just two weeks after signing. That’s money paid before even seeing the machines.
Then from April 30, 2025, the government will pay him US$9.1 million every single month. This will continue until March 2026, and then the cycle will repeat again each year. This is how Wicknell will get over US$400 million by 2029.
Let’s break it down. After the first payment of US$52.5 million in March 2025, here is what follows:
- 30 April 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 May 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 30 June 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 July 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 August 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 30 September 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 October 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 30 November 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 December 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 January 2026 – US$9.1 million
- 28 February 2026 – US$9.1 million
- 30 March 2026 – US$9.1 million
After this, they will repeat the same payments for three more years.
But here is the problem. No one knows if these cancer machines will even work. No one knows if hospitals will be trained to use them. No one knows if they will even be delivered. In the past, Chivayo got paid for energy projects that never happened. He was paid for work he never did. Now the same story is repeating, just in a different sector.
This is not just about money. It is about life and death. Cancer kills many people in Zimbabwe. Most hospitals have no cancer machines. Some patients are sent home to die. Yet the government is giving hundreds of millions to a man who has failed before. Why?
Because he is close to President Mnangagwa. That is the only reason. In Zimbabwe, if you are close to power, you get everything. If you are not, you get nothing. While doctors strike and hospitals run out of drugs, Chivayo gets richer.
This deal was not approved by Parliament. It was signed behind closed doors. There is no open bidding. No checks. No public input. Just a signature and the money starts flowing.
This is not how a government should work. This is not how public money should be spent. Zimbabweans deserve better. Cancer treatment is important. But the money should be used wisely, not handed to friends of the president.
People are suffering. People are dying. And Wicknell Chivayo is smiling all the way to the bank.
It is time to say no to this kind of corruption. We must demand answers. We must demand proof. We must demand accountability. This is our money. This is our future. If we don’t speak now, more shady deals will happen, and Zimbabwe will keep sinking.
