ZIMBABWE BUILDS A GOLDEN ROAD OF CORRUPTION

Today, Zimbabwe opens a new traffic interchange in Harare, called the Trabablas Interchange. This road was named after President Emmerson Mnangagwa. But while the government is celebrating, many of us are not. This is not just a road. This is a clear picture of how ZANU PF continues to steal from the people of Zimbabwe. I am a political activist and I will not keep quiet while our country is being looted in broad daylight.

The government says this project cost US$88 million. But if you look at similar roads in other countries, you will see how wrong this price is. For example, in South Africa, a similar road called the Mount Edgecombe Interchange was built in uMhlanga, Durban. That one cost US$65.9 million. And it is even bigger and better than the Trabablas Interchange. So why is Zimbabwe spending more money for less quality?

The answer is simple: corruption.

This road project was done by a company called Fossil Contracting. This company is owned by Obey Chimuka, a man who is known to be close to another shady businessman, Kudakwashe Tagwirei. Both these men are linked to ZANU PF and have made millions through government deals. Many people believe that this road was overpriced so that some of the money could be used for bribes, kickbacks, and other dirty deals. This is what happens when the same people who destroy the country are the ones getting rich from its projects.

As a political activist, I have spoken against many of ZANU PF’s lies. They always talk about development, but what they really mean is development for their pockets, not for the people. This interchange is just another way they are trying to show off, while ordinary Zimbabweans suffer. Roads should be built to help the people, not to help politicians and their friends get richer.

Let’s also talk about the quality of the road. People who have seen it up close say the workmanship is very poor. There are cracks already. The design is confusing. It does not even look like something that cost so much. But ZANU PF wants to open it with a big ceremony, pretending it is something great. It is not. It is a big insult to every Zimbabwean who is hungry, jobless, or struggling in the hospitals and schools that have no money.

We must ask: where was the tender process? Who decided to give this contract to Fossil Contracting? Was it advertised in a fair way? Or was it just another secret deal made behind closed doors?

These are the questions I keep raising in my activism. I write, I speak out, and I use my blog to expose the truth. Zimbabwe will not change if we stay silent. We must call out the thieves, even when they wear suits and call themselves leaders.

This is not just about a road. It is about justice. It is about making sure that our country is not sold piece by piece to the highest bidder. We cannot keep living in a Zimbabwe where corruption is normal, and speaking the truth is seen as a crime.

The Trabablas Interchange is not a success story. It is a symbol of everything that is wrong with ZANU PF rule. As activists, we must continue to shine a light in the darkness. The people of Zimbabwe deserve better.

I will keep writing. I will keep fighting. Until real change comes.
